Temazcal Ceremony or Inipi Temazcal is an ancient Native American ceremony whose purpose is the purification of both body and soul.
The word Temazcal, Nahuatl language, or Inipi Lakota language, literally means House of steam or, more precisely house purification. It basically consists of an igloo which is covered with blankets, leaving a dark, hermetically sealed from the outside.
Temazcal is considered a sacred place where they will ask for a purpose for our lives or simply to acknowledge and receive the blessing and purification of the four elements, Earth, Water, Air and Fire. This will light a ceremonial fire where volcanic rocks were placed, heated to a temperature that leaves them hot. Meanwhile participants meet as of old, sitting in a circle in front of a fire. Sacred chants rise and share the blessing of the word through the ceremony with the Sacred Pipe Snuff Chanupa call, it passes from hand to hand while being smoked by anyone who holds it. Thus the Temazcal acquired from before a ceremonial.
Once the stones are ready, participants enter one by one the Temazcal, perfumed with smoke of incense before so purified into the womb of Mother Earth.
The man who takes care of the fire is fire and who enters the stones in the head as the ceremony is going begging.
Then the only door is closed and between songs the ceremony unfolds, the bodies under the four elements of earth, water, air and fire. Over the stones are placed superiors medicinal herbs and healing for people, then poured water causing sweating and purification of the participants.
What happens inside the Temazcal is a mystery that is worth living. But beyond the ritual, the Temazcal is tremendously beneficial for the body, through the high temperatures achieved a major release of toxins, is also very beneficial against rheumatism, also helps blood circulation and acts against sinusitis, asthma and other ailments. But besides the physical benefits, is also a challenge to our minds as the Temazcal reaches high temperatures, testing our limits, thus giving us the possibility to transfer and overcome our fears and traumas.
After opening and introduce more stones honoring the four directions, the participants leave the womb to be born to new life. Something has changed, we made contact our deepest roots and achieved a close relationship with the Earth's Ancestral Medicine.
